The pentagram is a symbol sacred to pagans. The symbol is described by different people in different ways, but I was taught that the arms of the star represent Air, Earth, Fire and Water, with the last point representing Spirit. The Spirit point is always facing up, indicating that all matters spiritual always take precedence over Earthy matters.
 
The Moon is, of course, the ruler of the emotions and ruler of the waters, sacred to Witches. These two symbols sit beautifully together.
