The Weird Sisters refers to a specific group of plants that are highly toxic: Belladonna, Henbane, Mandrake and Datura. All of these have a long and often creepy history, and together they are the subject of many books and pieces of art.
 
Belladonna has been a facinating study for herbalists and pagans for centuries. The flower and fruit of the Belladonna plant are a study in contradiction: really beatiful, sweet smelling, but incredibly poisonous.
 
Historically, th eplant was used as a poison, but it also was used to make an eye wash! In te middle ages women used to wash their eyes in belladonna to make them dilate more. At that time people thought that made them more attractive. Problem is, it was also poisonous!
 
These earrings are sublimation printed in our studio, from vintage (19th century) botanical drawings. We format the art work, and I added a small, light skull and crossbones to add a little Gothic flare.
